Ever Wonder Why We Don’t Take Insurance?

Here’s a fun topic... Health Insurance. Who doesn’t love it?

Ever wonder why we don’t take insurance? Well, here’s the skinny.

Let’s start with our goal at Well Spine so you can see what we value and where we are coming from! We aim to provide an atmosphere of trust and compassion. We believe that whether you hobble in with pain or strut in for a wellness visit, you should leave feeling not only better than when you came in, but as though we took the time to care for you as an individual. You should feel like we LISTENED to you. Like, really listened. In a way where we asked questions and provided answers, give you things to do at home and make you feel like you are taken care of.

Now for the meat and potatoes. Both Dr. Amber and Dr. Dani have been In-Network Providers in the past and have seen just how much it can affect the quality of patient care. Since this can get drawn out and lengthy, here are a few key bullet points:

  • Reimbursement for insurance companies can be so low that in order to meet overhead, providers feel as though they have to see more patients to cover costs.

    • This means shorter appointment times and providers are typically rushed, which COULD result in a decrease in the quality of care.

  • Deductibles continue to increase and copays can very easily be the cash price we offer.

  • It’s not uncommon for there to be limits on the number of visits that are allowed for the year and many of our patients choose to come in for wellness (which isn’t covered anyway)

  • We LOVE seeing our littles! However, under the age 7 does not have Chiropractic coverage through the major health insurance companies.

  • Mountains of paperwork and time spent on denials for treatment that both the physician and the patient feel is important for their quality of life, but insurance companies feel is not medically necessary.

    • For example, a patient has frequent headaches from an accident years ago. Say they are able to work and perform activities of daily life so they are tagged as “Maximal Medical Improvement”, but their quality of life still suffers. Sometimes, this can take more than just a handful of treatments to truly fix.

  • With our current structure, we are able to provide discounts for families that come in all together once a month and through packages (ranging from 6-10 visits and even a Pregnancy Package) which can frequently be less expensive than a co-pay.

Moral of the story is, we don’t want to ever feel like Nancy is treated differently from Drew because of what their insurance does and does not pay or cover. We want each patient to be seen as the person they are, not the insurance they have. The goal of this lovely piece is to explain why we personally choose to be out of network with insurance companies and not as an opportunity to bash health insurance companies. If you have ANY questions, just give us a call! We are more than happy to offer further explanation or walk you through any questions you may have!

With all of that being said, if you do have insurance and you’d like to submit your visits, let us know! We will happily provide you with what is called a SUPERBILL which contains everything the insurance company needs.

Thank you as always for being amazing and we’ll see you soon!!

XO, The Well Spine Team
