Chiropractic Care for TMJ - Temporomandibular Joint Pain

How can we help with TMJ pain?

TMJ pain, or temporomandibular joint pain, refers to discomfort or dysfunction in the jaw joint and surrounding anatomy. The temporomandibular joint connects the jawbone to the skull and allows for movements like chewing and speaking. Some of the muscles that can tighten and contribute to TMJ pain include the masseter, temporalis, and pterygoid muscles. Stress can exacerbate TMJ issues, as heightened tension often leads to clenching or grinding of the teeth, which can strain the jaw muscles.

Through manual techniques such as activator and myofascial release, our chiropractic team alleviates tension in relevant muscles while mobilizing specific joints to promote relaxation. We also focus on the upper cervical spine, as misalignments there can impact jaw function.

By improving alignment and reducing tension, chiropractic care may help reduce teeth grinding, ultimately alleviating TMJ discomfort and improving jaw function.
